General Tire and NORRA To Create Mexican 1000 Display At Pomona’s Lucas Oil Off Road Expo

OCTOBER 1, 2012: With the largest off-road industry show just days away, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) and Mexican 1000 title sponsor General Tire have announced a joint effort to bring a piece of the popular vintage-themed Baja rally to Pomona Fairgrounds – home to the Lucas Oil Off Road Expo presented by General Tire. Expected to attract nearly 50,000 enthusiasts to the historic Fairplex facility, the Expo takes place Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6.

Expo attendees can look forward to seeing a large display of significant race and support vehicles from the 2012 General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000, including a newly created Retro Ford Bronco Pace Truck complete with vintage themed General Tire graphics, the iconic “Snortin’ Nortin Nova of Jim Riley and Rick Johnson, class winner Boyd Jaynes’ 1968 Ford Bronco he shared with Brian Godfrey and the Bandito Brother’s Chenowth two-seat buggy piloted by Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Greg Tracy.

In addition, General Tire and NORRA will debut a brand new film trailer for the documentary film “Baja Social Club” on big screens at the large GTR tractor trailer display set up, which will be located outside in the main exhibit halls. The Baja Social Club project is a joint effort between the Bandito Brother’s production company (the team behind Act of Valor and Dust to Glory), creator and Executive Producer Marty Fiolka and presenting sponsor General Tire.

A video photomontage of the 2012 Mexican 1000 will also be on display, along with NORRA staff members answering questions about the unique off-road adventure. NORRA officials also anticipate that the Lucas Oil Off Road Expo will also be the platform for several major announcements concerning 2013’s rally, including dates, locations and several new and specialized classes to expand the event’s appeal to new enthusiast wanting to enjoy “The Happiest Race on Earth.”

Now preparing for its 4th running, the NORRA Mexican 1000 has gaining a reputation for bringing fun and a shared sense of adventure back to Baja off-road racing. The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year rally spotlights vintage off-road vehicles, motorcycles and ATVs, as well as rally cars, a limited number of modern desert racecars, and classes for prerunner-type trucks and buggies. The four-day, on and off-road rally offers teams high-speed off-road driving, unique hospitality and a social camaraderie that is the heart of the General Tire Mexican 1000 experience.
