General Tire’s Grabber is Born from Baja and Tamed for the Street

When the Grabber Competition tire was introduced, it surpassed all expectations and proved to be the ultimate contender in the desert. Now in its third year of competition, General Tire’s Grabber competition tire is powering Team General Tire drivers through the toughest terrain imaginable. And Team GT’s desert and short course off-road race teams have been sweeping podiums throughout the off-road nation.

One of Team GT’s premiere desert racing drivers, “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin, won the 2010 BITD Parker 425 and has racked up podiums at 2010 SNORE Mint 400 – 2nd place, SCORE Baja 500 – 3rd place and is looking for the win in BITD Vegas to Reno and Baja 1000.

Turning to short-course racing in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, Carl Renezeder has catapulted the Team GT short-course race team to the top with his consistent podium finishes. Renezeder has chalked up an amazing 89 short course wins – 13 in LORRS, 65 in CORR, 10 in WSORR and 1 in RJORGP. Renezeder made short-course history in 2009, sweeping the Unlimited 2 and Unlimited 4 championships in the inaugural season of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, and becoming the first ever seven-time national short course champion.

“This has been an exciting season so far for Team General Tire. We have accomplished many milestones since our return to racing three years ago,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing, General Tire. “Even though all of our drivers have their own motorsports teams, this year we really have seen them come together to truly become ‘Team General Tire.’ It’s been very gratifying to see all their hard work and skill pay off with the successes we’ve seen this season so far, and we congratulate all of them for their amazing efforts.”

Now, General Tire is bringing the same race-winning technology to the light truck market with the introduction of the new General Grabber. Re-engineered with a balance of off-road capabilities and on-road manners, the new Grabber is a welcome addition to today’s light truck market. The tire has been coined born from Baja but tamed for the street.

Designed with a tough, 3-ply Duragen™-reinforced body construction to stand up to the rigors of off-road conditions, the Grabber also features General Tire’s exclusive competition-specific tread compound. Patented Duragen™ technologies include an ultra-high strength steel belt and a new ultra-durable 3-ply micro-fiber casing – making it the strongest tire that General has produced to date. In fact, the steel belts in one Grabber tire are strong enough to lift a trophy truck.

Typical fitments include the Ford F150, Dodge Ram, Toyota Tundra, Jeep Wrangler. Grabber is also the choice for sport truck or SUV owners looking to upgrade wheels and tires in a Plus One, Plus Two, Plus Three or more application.

The Grabber also includes a patented “Strake and Chamfer” tread design to deliver aggressive off-road traction in a pattern that is also very stable and remarkably quiet on paved roads. The tire’s optimized tread geometry, or strake, includes a series of sweeping grooves that allow the chamfering in the corner tread blocks to actively interface with off-road terrain.

This tire’s reinforced puncture-resistant sidewall construction is also taken directly form the heavy-duty technology built into the Grabber competition tire. The Grabber is available in a range of popular 15? to 20? sizes to fit a variety of pickups, sport trucks and SUVs. General Tire has backed this tire with a 60-day customer satisfaction warranty. Select sizes will also feature popular red-lettered sidewalls that are used in the desert-racing version of the Grabber.

General Tire also has a complete line of Grabber tires for the passenger and light truck market, including the new Grabber off-road tire; the Grabber HTS, which delivers the perfect synergy of comfort, durability and performance; the Grabber UHP, which sets a whole new standard in performance and ride quality for SUVs, light trucks and crossover vehicles; and Grabber AT2, designed for aggressive all-terrain traction in all weather conditions.
